Everything You Need to Know About Vitamin C Skincare: Q & A with Sylvie Hutchings
So let’s get started.
Question 1. Can my teenager use Vitamin C?
Answer – I have had three teenage sons and always suggest that anyone under 18 uses Vitamin C sparingly and that the best age to start is 18. However, for an acne or blemished skin it is a go to product. So anyone under 18 can use our Vitamin C products to help with normal blemishes. For problem acne, a dermatologist is the best place to start in my experience.Question 2. I am using my Vitamin C 3 times a day and my skin is irritated and I am noticing little breakouts!
Answer – Vitamin C if used too frequently can cause irritation. Using Vitamin C 3 times a day is too much! My recommendation for Vitamin C is to always begin slowly. Start with 2 drops at night and build it up to 2 drops morning and night over a week or as you feel comfortable.Question 3. Is it ok to use Vitamin C after I have exfoliated my skin?
Answer – Absolutely!!! Yes it most certainly is. The reason we exfoliate our skin is to remove the dead skin cells. Doing this will allow for better absorption of the Actives (Vitamin C being an active) in your skincare products.
Furthermore, the benefits of a Vitamin C active such as brightening, helping to reduce pigmentation and dark spots along with firming the skin and all of the antioxidant properties are increased. A great reason to add exfoliation into your weekly routine and pair it with Vitamin C.

Question 4. I love my Retinol product but I want to add Vitamin C into my regime. Can I layer them? Can I use them together?
Answer – No you should not layer them, which translates to - No do not use them at the same time. My suggestion is to use your Vitamin C product in the morning and then use your Retinol product at night. Using them together can cause your skin to become irritated and sensitive.Question 5. What about using Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C together?
Answer – Now this is a great combination and Yes you definitely should be using Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid together. Together they are powerful and enhance each others super powers!!Question 6. Great! So I can use Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C together. Which one do you apply first?
Answer – You want to apply the active which will serve to refine, brighten and clarify the skin first. That will be Vitamin C and follow up with a product which will plump, hydrate and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. That would be Hyaluronic Acid. What a great Combination!
