Vitamin C Benefits for Skin - 6 Compelling Facts

When I added our Vitamin C Brightening Serum to my skincare routine, I noticed a change in my skin within just a few days - my skin was brighter, my tone clearer and the texture felt more refined. I loved it!

Of course, I wanted to increase the amount of serum I was using and I wanted to use it more often.

Wrong! I knew intuitively and from the research that too much of any ingredient is not necessarily better.

There are also differences between people in how their skin reacts to the products they use and unless recommended by a dermatologist for specific conditions, caution is required with very high concentrations in products.

So, with a little trial and error I finally settled on a regime which worked for me.

As Vitamin C is such an important antioxidant vitamin for our skin, I thought I’d compile a little Fun Fact sheet for you.

Fact No 1 – Absorption

Did you know that once it is applied topically, Vitamin C is instantly absorbed and will stay in your outer skin layers  for 72 hours?

Fact No 2 – Reduce Inflammation

Yes, Vitamin C can help to reduce inflammation caused by acne. As it promotes collagen synthesis it can also help aid skin recovery after an acne breakout.

Experience with three teenagers has proved this to me beyond doubt.

Fact No 3 – Sunlight

Vitamin C does not make your skin more vulnerable to Sunburn. Vitamin C may actually help decrease skin stress from UV light exposure

Alpha hydroxy acids and Retinols do depending on dosage but not the trusty Vitamin C.  However, it is always 100% recommended to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen when venturing out.

Fact No 4 – Enzymes

It helps with the formation of enzymes that regulate processes within the body.  For example, when taken internally it helps with the absorption of iron.

Fact No 5 - Hyaluronic Acid

Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid are a match made in skin heaven. Together they take your skincare routine to the next level.

Fact No. 6 – Diet

Our bodies do not produce Vitamin C and we must source it through our diet or topically. This is why living well is such an important part of an anti-aging skincare routine.

Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits, berries, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and spinach.

Brighten up with Vitamin C

Achieve a natural glow this season by introducing a brightening serum with Vitamin C into your routine to reduce pigmentation and stimulate collagen and elastin production.

Vitamin C is a super antioxidant that has the ability to accelerate the skin’s healing processes and can also help protect your skin from UV rays, pollution and free radicals, making it a must-have to help combat stressed, spotty and sun-damaged Spring skin.

To achieve glowing skin this season I recommend Scout Cosmetics Vitamin C Brightening Serum. This potent and restorative Superfood brightening serum combines multifunctional actives, essential fatty acids and antioxidants with key ingredient Vitamin C to help improve skin tone and texture.

The Add on Game Changer

To kick off the beautiful skin reveal and to keep pigmentation and blemishes at bay, enlist the aid of a daily sleep mask/treatment gel.

My recommendation for using this clever Vitamin C, collagen boosting brightening, clarifying and calming Skin Perfecting Radiance Gel is to use this every night after applying the Vitamin C Brightening Serum.

Simply smooth the gel onto the face evenly.  Paying attention to the undereye area where fine lines are evident.  Allow gel to dry then smooth on your moisturiser.  Use the gel every night for 4 weeks to begin with then once the results have been achieved drop back to 2 – 3 times a week.

Reverse the damage of Winter, reinvigorate your skincare regime and support your skin’s ability to repair itself by following these four simple steps this season.
